Sock it to me

Today I would like to address a world wide issue, socks.

They are bought in pairs, yes?
Yes they are and yet I have a laundry basket full of "singles".
No matter where I look for the AWOL's I have no success. Where do they go?
It's a weekly event. I have singles that I've had for years. Keeping them in the vain hope that someday,somehow their partner will reappear.
Do the argue? divorce? emancipate themselves?
There has to be a cure for this.
